Chris doesn’t like drilling teeth any more than his patients like having them drilled. This is why one of his main principles is to focus on minimally invasive and preventative dentistry. He also tries to avoid amalgam fillings – he doesn’t like their appearance, the fact they can cause teeth to crack and certainly doesn’t like the associated health risks.
Chris’ philosophy in life is to do everything to the very best of his abilities and he reflects this in his role as a dentist.
Safe in the knowledge that you and your family will be receiving the highest quality, forward thinking, dental treatment available. Where you’d feel confident and reassure that you’re in safe hands. Where you’d be listened to.
It has been a longstanding belief of mine that, in the past and still to a degree today, people’s teeth were overfilled. Decay was left too long ‘under review’. Coupled with this, the preparation of the teeth was not done with the preservation of tooth tissue in mind, which resulted in larger fillings. In turn these larger fillings put more strain on the remaining tooth structure and leads to cracks forming and eventual fracture or nerve damage to the teeth.
The new genre of dentistry which I believe in is called ‘Minimally Invasive Dentistry’. The goal of minimally invasive dentistry, or microdentistry, is to conserve healthy tooth structure. It focuses on prevention, remineralisation, and minimal dental intervention.
Also, I am coining the phrase ‘The Little Dentist’ from one of my favourite books- ‘The Little Prince” by Antoine De Saint-Exupery. It’s a great short story written for children but full of philosophical messages. Well worth a read, or at least reading the summary of it online, if you have not come across it before.
One such line from it is “You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.” This is how I view dental decay and the health of children’s teeth. It also shows how children look on things with uncomplicated eyes.
If we can change how children view their teeth and the importance of diet and good oral hygiene then the future generations will have less dental need.
